  1. Hi

I have products in multiple categories and I need a solution so that the breadcrumb will saw the path from the source category. I mean the actual path taken to arrive at the current product page.
In order to understand the above better, I’ll give an example

For example, the product “wooden calendar No1” belongs to the category “wooden calendars” and also to the subcategory “wooden-wall-calendars” who has parent categories calendars/wall/wooden-wall-calendars.

My problem is when I go to the product page wooden calendar No1 shows always as breadcrumbs
    home/calendars/wall/wooden-wall-calendars
no matter the actual path is taken to arrive at the current product page. Even if go via the category wooden calendars.

When I go via the category wooden calendars I need the breadcrumbs to be
    home/wooden-calendars.

Can Breadcrumb NavXT Paths resolve this problem?

I use Astra Them and Yoast SEO

    Thanks

    Leonidas

    • Hi Leonidas,

Thanks for reaching out here, I can’t go into too much detail on the .org forums regarding premium extensions so my response there was sort of vague. From the use case/story you provided, I believe Breadcrumb NavXT will allow you to get the breadcrumb trail you want. Breadcrumb NavXT Paths allows you to use the visitor’s path traveled to influence what term is selected when visiting a post that is a member of multiple terms of the same taxonomy (e.g. categories). That said, this functionality requires the HTTP_REFERRER filed, so it may not work if you are using aggressive caching.

Additionally, Breadcrumb NavXT Paths will allow you to set your primary category (since you are using Yoast SEO, it will use the one set using its primary term feature).

      • Hi John

What worries me is that in the description of this premium extension you mention posts and you don’t mention products.
Also in your response, you wrote “I believe Breadcrumb NavXT will allow you to get the breadcrumb trail you want”
I need this function for my woocommerce store so I need to be sure that it will work for products in multiple categories.
Can you please assure me that it will work for woocommerce products in multiple categories (Astra Theme and Yoast with breadcrumbs disable). Also, in the worst scenario that it will not work do I get a refund?
Finally, I’d like to mention that I’m a web designer and not a developer so I need to know if any additional coding will be required or the required job will be done from the plugin settings.
I don’t use a cache plugin so no aggressive cashing.
My website is not multilanguage it’s only in the Greek language.

        Thanks

        • Hi Leonidas,

Normally, when the lowercase ‘post’ or ‘posts’ are used, I am referring to an instance of any post type (including custom post types added by other plugins) other than instances of the Page post type. In the case of Breadcrumb NavXT Paths, it works with instances of custom post types as well as instances of the built-in Post post type.

I just tested Breadcrumb NavXT Paths on my WooCommerce testbed, and it works as intended on products with with multiple product categories. Yes, under the worst case scenario, if for some reason we can’t get Breadcrumb NavXT Paths to work on your site, I can issue a refund.

As long as you are already using Breadcrumb NavXT to generate the breadcrumb trails on your site, Breadcrumb NavXT Paths does not require any additional custom code to be written for what you want to do.

  2. Hi John

I tested Breadcrumb NavXT Paths and does exactly what I wanted. I set the primary category from Yoast SEO.
    Thanks for the great plugin.
