Breadcrumb NavXT 4.2.0

Holy revamped settings page Batman! As previewed earlier in “A New Settings Page,” the settings page has been heavily modified for Breadcrumb NavXT 4.2.0. The number of tabs has been reduced to 4 basic tabs: General, Post Types, Taxonomies, and Miscellaneous. These tabs reduce the tab clutter seen when a site has several Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies. Visually, the tabs have been styled to match the H3 sized tabs within the WordPress admin area.

Other new features include support for Post Format archives and Custom Post Types can use post parent, or taxonomy based hierarchy. Date based archives are now only allowed for Posts, as they do not work for Custom Post Types. Finally, a slew of bugs relating to the max title length functionality, the widget’s don’t show on frontpage setting, and mainsite links on pages in multisite environments.

  1. Hi,

I like to remove the first breadcrumb, because it is the same as the second.

Everywhere you see: home > home > page

How can I remove the first one?

    Cheers,
    Sam

    • Look at your home and blog breadcrumb settings, if they are both set to home that would be the problem. Otherwise, I need more information about your setup (do you have a static front page?).

    • Hi Ramūnas,

Please send me an email from the email address you want to contact you through. I’ll then setup an account for you in the glotpress install.

  2. Hi, since my update to 4.2.0 all my breadcrump settings seem to be broken. I first had options set manually in my theme by setting $breadcrumb_trail->opt[‘home_title’] = “blog”; and so on, however, since you probably changed the option keys this didn’t work any more. Using your settings page doesn’t seem to have an effect either, no options would be changed even with the appropriate checkboxes checked. I fixed it by downloading the source and adapting my themes source code to the new option key names. Am I the only one? Cheers, Chris

    • You must have been on a pre 4.0 version. Since about 3.8 I started recommending that users do not directly call the breadcrumb class as in 4.0 the settings were going to change. Now that they have you get the issue you’re experiencing.

When using the settings page you need to call call bcn_display() (or the list version) for the settings from the the settings page to be used. Directly instantiating the bcn_breadcrumb_trail class will not grab these settings.

  3. I noticed in Changelog that you state in 3.8.0 that the plugin will support Google’s Breadcrumbs RDFa and Microformat.
But in 4.2.0. appears that it isn’t in there anymore. I can’t seem to get google structured data testing tool to see the breadcrumbs and no breadcrumb code related to microformat in the source of the page.

Did this function get removed by accident in an update?

  4. Hi John,
I can’t get Home to display in the breadcrumb navigation on any pages except the Home page. For example, the navigation on the News and Events page leaves a space for Home, but it doesn’t display, and the navigation looks like this:
    > News and Events

I have a static front page. Is there something I need to change in Settings, so that Home will display in the navigation on all the other pages?

    Thanks,
    Nancy
