Web Trends That Need to Die

Since the beginning of ‘intelligent’ life on Earth, there have been fads. And, as with all things, all fads come to an end. Sometimes, it’s better to cause a fad’s untimely demise rather than let it run its course. Here are two trends on websites that I keep seeing that really need to die.

Enough With the Diggbar Clones

While Digg itself has killed the Diggbar, there are still several sites with Diggbar clones. These are annoying and a waste of screen real-estate. They are the HTML equivalent of a Browser toolbar for your site, and are equally useless.

Quit with the Facebook Activity Boxes

If you are just posting links to your recent posts in your Facebook activity feed, skip the middle man and use a recent post widget. The same goes for Twitter feeds. Whether your realize it or not, you are compromising the privacy of your visitors when doing this—especially true with Facebook, which continues to prove that it is not trustworthy.
