Breadcrumb NavXT 3.2.0

Holy backupable settings Batman! With Breadcrumb NavXT 3.2.0 you can import and export your settings to/from a XML file. This should help anyone migrate from a testbed to a production environment. You may also reset to the default Breadcrumb NavXT settings in the event the settings become corrupted. Additional features of Breadcrumb NavXT 3.2.0 are the ability to output the breadcrumb trail in reverse order and the ability to output each breadcrumb wrapped in <li> tags.

This release was somewhat delayed. Fret not, we shall see another release by July. Also, note that the French translation is out of date. The previous translator has not responded to the e-mail announcement made a week ago. If you have an updated French translation, please sent it to me via e-mail (see contact page for e-mail address).

You can grab the latest version of Breadcrumb NavXT from the Breadcrumb NavXT page.

  1. Hey, your latest version didn’t include the full fix for bcn_display( returning correctly.

    At line 1488 in breadcrumb_navxt_admin.php

It should return that value. That way, if a value is returned by the function referenced, it should return it, otherwise it will return null.

    • Scott,

Yeah, it was there, but for some reason it was removed from the trunk (thus not in 3.2.0). It should be in the SVN trunk now. Let me know if that version throws any PHP errors. I’m not seeing any, but since it will now always return something (the desired string if $return is set to true, otherwise it should return null).

  2. John,

    Thanks for the wonderful plugin.

Unfortunately, because I chose to use a plugin that won’t work for 2.7.1, I have to remain at 2.6 for a while, and upgrading the Breadcrumbs plugin results in this error that scrags my entire admin session (the user session is fine, but going to wp-admin kills the browser dead:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function register_setting() in /home/longisla/public_html/wp-content/plugins/breadcrumb-navxt/breadcrumb_navxt_admin.php on line 133

    • Chris,

Yeah, I have a fix in the SVN branch for 3.2.x. You can grab the updated PHP files from http://svn.wp-plugins.org/breadcrumb-navxt/branches/3.2.x/ for now. Let me know if that fixes the 2.6 compatibility issues, it should, but I don’t have a 2.6 testbed to test against.

The only thing that would affect plugins that changed between 2.6 and 2.7 would be the administrative interface. I’m not sure why there are any plugins that are not compatible with 2.7 yet, it has been out for a good seven months now.

      • Thanks, I’ll get it. Is there an SVN URI to the repository, so I can point my SVN client to it? It’s a bit klunky for me to have to save each file separately like that.

The plugin in question is EventCalendar. It was left fallow for a couple of years, so I was forced to customize it. He has picked up development of it again, but the new strain is quite different from my hacked-up one, so I need to do major surgery in order to adapt to it.

Since I have a dozen irons in the fire, it’s hard to justify the several days it will take me to do said surgery, especially as we’re looking at a complete rewrite of the site anyway.

        • Chris,

That URL should work for checking out in SVN (at least that’s what my TortoiseSVN client is using).

I understand where you’re coming from. I usually don’t end up changing any of the code for this site until something breaks on a WordPress update.

          • I’ll get it, but I bit the bullet and did the surgery. It actually wasn’t so bad. Alex Tingle is pretty good at this stuff.

            Thanks!

  3. I’m a new user of this cool plugin and I seem to be having a problem with not having active links, I can see the path but they are not active (hyperlink). I have tried the basic plugin as well as the admin. What am I missing?

I also have not found any docuumentation on the Admin Interface options, is there such a thing?

    Thanks for any assist.

    • David,

Check the ‘Home Anchor’ setting in the Administrative Interface and check out what its value is. If it is blank, then click the tab labeled ‘Import/Export/Reset’. You’ll then get a gray drop down that will have a few buttons on it, click the one that is labeled ‘Reset’. You’ll be prompted to confirm if you want to reset the options, click ‘Yes’. That should load the default values into the database and your links should then work.
