WP Lynx Preview

Ok, so I let the cat out of the bag yesterday (ha ha). Back on topic, WP Lynx is a project that I have been working on for a few months now, with the help of JD Hodges. It was his idea originally, and he came to me for to create the plugin (and thanks to him it’s now available to everyone).

Ever seen the Facebook URL attacher for your wall? Well, facebook no longer gets all of the fun. Introducing WP Lynx, a customizable, rich link generator. Below is an example of a lynx print that I used in my post about OM Minneapolis.

This post it light on details, but later this week a video preview will demo the features of WP Lynx and the accompanying post will explain things further. As of tonight, WP Lynx  has been submitted  and is awaiting approval to the WordPress.org repository. During the wait, you can get the public build on the WP Lynx page. For the inquisitive types, there is more information on WP Lynx on its page.

  1. Aha, that is WP Lynx. I was wondering yesterday about the name and was thinking about the Lynx Browser. Now I undertand it’s related to links probably. Nice!

Can you check for favicons as well? Maybe that can give some style.

    • hakre,

I figured that’d be the case. Originally I was going to call it Links Lynx. There are a ton of things JD and I want to add to it, including favicon support. This is just the “first” working release so that we can get feedback on what’s implemented so far and figure out what people want.

  2. This will be a great plugin addition to WordPress. Nice work John, I look forward to using this.

    • Charlie,

If you find any bugs, or have any feature requests/changes let me know. Also, I bet you’d be more interested in an unreleased plugin I’ve been working on for the past few years.

      • Will do. I will probably get a chance to try it out here within the next two weeks. You’ll have to tell me more about this plugin you speak of…

        • It has to do with running. Next Friday I may be able to get a good preview of it together that I can demo (hurray for off Fridays). I’ve been holding off doing the WordPress integration as they’ve slowly integrated many things into the core that I’ve needed. This spring was the first time WordPress had the features I needed, but I didn’t have time. Now that I’m done with school, I have more time (well I have weekends). All of the external code has been written already (I did that two or so years ago).
